Belief

As usual, myself and a friend were discussing things, a few days back and as usual contradiction in our views showed up. My friend is really very good at getting her views conveyed with lots of examples supporting her viewpoint. And that is something that i admire in her a lot (I just dont talk much or do any convincing - family not included!). She has a strong set of beliefs. I am a total anti of what she is! Not in not having a strong set of beliefs (its rock solid!) but simply having a different set. And the nicest part is, we understand that and accept it (I do and i think she does too)!

I believe, Belief system is something that makes each individual a unique person and one should be tolerant enough to accept it without questioning. The reason being, the development of that belief system is a consequence of experience, testing it out, and the belief itself in the belief system. True, that this set of beliefs is prone to change with passage of time but at a particular point in time, this set is changeless, its static.

For example, at this paticular time: i like physics (yeah, physics is a wide area, and i like a teeny weeny part of it most of all) and i tell her how beautiful i find it because... okay, i never told her the reason; she finds management/coding as thrilling as i find physics/sketching/cycling. Fine! Well and good. Is it hard to accept that fact? Well, hopefully not! In a similar way, is it hard to accept other things too?

Yes, It is! Reason? She gave an example to show that there are some constraints which'd make you want to question. Constraints: Love, Fear, Care...

I wanted to tell her, its a choice that has been made by a person (you care) with a lot of thought, faith, and belief. To generate faith is a tough thing, so just let go. But all i could blurt out smilingly, was 'you are just concerned and that's natural'. She knows all these things and totally respects the person concerned, but then, accepting something unusual and unconventional is tough. (I remember, how badly i wanted abhinav to take C++, so really was making IP look like a total loser in the field of IT, and telling him (convincing?!) how C++ is much more a useful course, leaving the desicion to him!)

So the next step is convincing. This is something we both agreed on but again in a different way. I think, it is very important for a person to be convinced of his/her beliefs. There should be no doubt and we both think, if the situation demands, you should be able to convince the other regarding it.

Okay, if you say, convincing means, when convinced, I have to switch into your beliefs? No, not at all. I just should be tolerant enough to simply accept your viewpoint and believe in you. And I do! Atleast majority of times.

At a given time, Having a firm belief system is like having a passion. Letting go of your beliefs is like cutting out a part of you, like killing your passion.

I truly believe, Belief system is something that makes each individual a unique person and one should be tolerant enough to accept it without questioning.

Btw, Abhinav took C++.

Shruti, what you wrote is very true.

Belief system is something that makes each individual a unique person and one should be tolerant enough to accept it without questioning.

One day, a lady doctor who participates in Bhajans said to me, " Sorry to tell you, some how I do not believe in God."

I said, there is nothing to be sorry about. BELIEF IN GOD is a belief. We cannot prove or disprove whether there is a God or not.

But those who believe in God, use GOD as person to whom they can confess and look for protection, even though such protection may be actually coming from once own STRONG THOUGHTS.

Personally, I believe STRONG UNQUESTIONABLE CONVICTIONS can make things happen in mental as well as physical levels.

Confused? I hope NOT.

take care.
